How to get a cheap same-day hotel in Japan
Updated Aug 2026
Prices vary widely between hotels and plans on the same night. Compare distance against price, and pick room-only, prepaid plans as your default.
1. Check both “nearest” and “cheapest”
Same-day hotel hunting is a trade-off between distance and price. Ask whether the saving justifies the extra walk — a five-minute difference often saves thousands of yen.
2. Choose room-only, prepaid plans
For the same room, the no-meal (room-only) plan is usually the cheapest, and card-prepaid plans are often cheaper than pay-at-hotel ones.
If you arrive late and leave early, a breakfast plan rarely pays off — room-only is enough for most late-night stays.
3. Look one or two stations away
City-center prices run high. Widening your search one or two stations out can shift the whole price range.
4. Assume prices keep moving
Same-day availability and prices change constantly. Displayed prices are a snapshot — once you decide, booking quickly is what actually gets you the low price.
