Late-night hotel check-in in Japan — how late can you arrive?

Updated Aug 2026

Quick answer

Most hotels accept late check-in, with deadlines ranging from midnight to 30:00 (6 AM next morning). Notation like “29:30” means 5:30 AM the next day.

1. What “25:00” or “29:30” means

Japanese hotels write late-night deadlines as hours past 24: 25:00 is 1 AM, 29:30 is 5:30 AM the following morning. Even past midnight, it still counts as tonight's stay.

2. Call ahead if you'll be late

Many hotels treat a large unannounced delay as a cancellation. If you're running late, call the number in your booking confirmation.

A no-show typically incurs a 100% cancellation fee.

3. How to spot a reliably late-friendly hotel

A 24-hour front desk means you can arrive any time. Otherwise, check the check-in deadline and how the night entrance works.

TOMAL shows each hotel's check-in deadline on the result card, in green when it extends past midnight.
